Travel to GMCMF

How should I plan my travel to the festival?

Please make plans to arrive on Sunday, June 23, which is the day all participants arrive to the festival. It is ideal--but not essential--to arrive between noon and 5 pm, if you can, as you will be able to join other students for dinner, and attend a welcome meeting at 7 pm and a meeting on your dorm hall at 9 pm.

If you find you need to schedule a flight to arrive on June 22, you will need to find hotel housing for that night.

GMCMF staff will pick up all students arriving at the Burlington airport (BTV), Amtrak station (Essex Junction, VT), or Burlington bus station, no matter what time they arrive. We will issue reminders to students who have not yet notified us of their travel plans, so if you do not hear from us, you can be sure we already have your plans. We will send information on driving and parking for those arriving by car, and we will schedule van pickups for those arriving by plane, bus, or train.

What plans should I make for departure at the end of the festival?

Saturday, July 20 is the day of departure for all, and the festival vacates all buildings by noon. The day begins with checkout in the dorm lobby, and van trips to the airport beginning at 4 a.m. Prior to leaving, students notify a Resident Assistant that they are ready for a quick room inspection. Any room damage will be charged to the students after UVM maintenance assesses the damage. Failure to turn in a room key and key card will result in a $55 charge.

If you have indicated that you are arriving by plane, train, or bus on the Travel Plans form, we will be picking you up, even if your arrival is very late in the evening. Please be in contact with Travis Carpenter at 315-212-4281 if there is a significant delay in your expected arrival.

For others, here are directions for getting to Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival by car.

Our festival takes place on the Redstone Campus of the University of Vermont (UVM), occupying the southwest corner of campus (view map here).

Directions to UVM’s Redstone Campus:

From I-89 North or South: Take Exit 14W. Turn west (toward downtown and Lake Champlain) on Route 2; it is also called Williston Road and will become Main Street as it passes through campus. Continue on Main Street past intersections for University Heights and University Terrace. Turn left on South Prospect Street. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

From north or south on Route 7: Enter Burlington from either direction. Turn east onto Main Street (Route 2). Go uphill one light to South Prospect Street; turn right. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

From the Adirondack Northway (I-87): Take Exit 20. Drive north on Route 9 to Route 149, headed to Fort Ann, N.Y. In Fort Ann, take Route 4 North to Route 22A in Vermont. Follow Route 22A through Vergennes, then follow Route 7 North into Burlington. Turn right onto Main Street (Route 2 East). Go uphill one light to South Prospect Street, and turn right. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

From Burlington International Airport: From airport grounds, turn left onto Airport Drive. At next stoplight, turn right onto Williston Road/Route 2 West. Drive 4-5 miles west to UVM campus, where Williston Road becomes Main Street. Continue on Main Street past intersections for University Heights and University Terrace. Turn left on South Prospect Street. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

Directions to dormitory parking (Wing/Davis/Wilks)

Once you are on South Prospect Street, you will drive approximately ¾ mile. You will see a UVM sign indicating the Music Building and other destinations on the Redstone Campus, but pass this entrance for now. Continue another one-tenth mile, and turn left at a UVM sign which reads “Residence Halls.” If you pass the Redstone Apartments, you have gone too far. After turning into this drive, you will be facing the Wing/Davis/Wilks dorm complex, and the drive will curve around to the right. Park in the Davis lot. Once you have been registered and receive your room key, you may park in the circular drive next to Davis Hall (while unloading only, please…we have many people arriving).
