
Nanae Iwata
Praised in the New York Times for her “expansive lyricism,” violinist Nanae Iwata has established herself as a soloist, period performer, recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician in the United States, Europe, and Asia. A winner of the Artist International Competition, Ms. Iwata gave her debut recital at Carnegie Hall, which was praised by critic Anthony Aibel as “riveting…exquisitely done” (New York Concert Review). She regularly performs as a member of acclaimed ensembles such as The Knights, New York City Ballet, National Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Handel and Haydn Society, Seiji Ozawa Kinen Festival Orchestra and New York Baroque Incorporated. She performs fluidly on both the period instrument and the modern violin.
A devoted educator, Ms. Iwata has served as Visiting Lecturer at Cornell University and is currently Arts Program Advisor at Himeji International School in Japan. She was an Executive Director of the New Amsterdam Conservatory in New York, as well as on faculty at the Sherwood Conservatory, Lucy Moses School, and the Mozart Music Academy. Ms. Iwata maintains a sought-after private studio committed to the development of all of her students in the United States and Japan. Her students have earned prestigious prizes at competitions, have gone to the top conservatories and world-renown Pre-College programs. She has been a violin faculty at Shinsyu Art Camp in Nagano for the past 10 years. Additionally, for the past 5 years, she has given masterclasses and led four-day intensive teacher training focused on individual student set-up, technical development and musicianship.
Ms. Iwata is an editor for the International Music Company. She has earned three degrees from The Juilliard School which includes a Master of Music in Historical performance. She won the Juilliard Concerto Competition and was a full-scholarship student of Masao Kawasaki, Ronald Copes, Monica Huggett and Cynthia Roberts.
