Travel to GMCMF

How should I plan my travel to the festival?

Please make plans to arrive on Sunday, June 23, 2019, which is the day all participants arrive to the festival. It is ideal--but not essential--to arrive between noon and 5 pm, if you can, as you will be able to join other students for dinner, and attend a welcome meeting at 7 pm and a meeting on your dorm hall at 9 pm.

If you arrive on Saturday, June 22, you will need to find local transportation and hotel housing for that night. Festival staff can pick you up from your hotel on Sunday.

Beginning on Sunday, June 23, GMCMF staff will pick up all students arriving at the Burlington airport (BTV), Amtrak station (Essex Junction, VT), or Burlington bus stations, even if very late.

How do I arrange to be picked up on my arrival by plane, bus, or train?

Every student must submit an online Travel Plans form. Please do this as soon as you know your plans! Unlike our other forms, you can submit the form again if you have significant changes. If we already have the flight/train number, there is no need to resubmit the form, as we'll track the arrival time for that flight or train. If you (the student) receive a automated email showing your form has been submitted, you can be sure that we have your plans and you will be scheduled for pickup if arriving by plane, bus, or train.

What if I will be keeping a car at the festival?

Please submit an online Travel Plans form, letting us know of your estimated arrival time. Driving and parking directions are below. On the first weekday morning of the festival, you will need to obtain a free parking pass from UVM in order to park in one of the lots adjacent to the Wing/Davis/Wilks complex. An RA can explain the location of the University Heights North service desk, where you'll need to go.

What if I am being brought to the festival by car?

Please submit an online Travel Plans form, letting us know of your estimated arrival time. Driving and parking directions are below.

Who should I call if I have significant travel delays or other problems?

We will provide contact information to students and parents in advance of travel. Email and the Travel Plans form are not useful on arrival day.

Where and when will I register once I arrive on campus?

Registration is conducted on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from noon until 6 p.m. in the lobby of Wing/Davis/Wilks dorm complex. A member of the resident staff will individually register students arriving later. The first meal available to students is dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. (parents are not able to be accommodated in the dining hall, but there are many local restaurants). An opening meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. for all students and faculty who have arrived. Parents are welcome to attend. The opening meeting is not essential, so don’t worry if you must arrive later. At 9:00 p.m., a resident assistant (RA) will hold a brief meeting on each dorm floor (students only).

What plans should I make for departure at the end of the festival?

Monday, July 22, 2019 is the day of departure for all, and the festival vacates all buildings by noon. The day begins with checkout in the dorm lobby, and van trips to the airport beginning at 4 a.m. Prior to leaving, students notify a Resident Assistant that they are ready for a quick room inspection. Any room damage will be charged to the students after UVM maintenance assesses the damage. Failure to turn in a room key and key card will result in a $55 charge.

Here are directions for getting to Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival by car.

Our festival takes place on the Redstone Campus of the University of Vermont (UVM), occupying the southwest corner of campus (view map here).

Directions to UVM’s Redstone Campus:

From I-89 North or South: Take Exit 14W. Turn west (toward downtown and Lake Champlain) on Route 2; it is also called Williston Road and will become Main Street as it passes through campus. Continue on Main Street past intersections for University Heights and University Terrace. Turn left on South Prospect Street. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

From north or south on Route 7: Enter Burlington from either direction. Turn east onto Main Street (Route 2). Go uphill one light to South Prospect Street; turn right. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

From the Adirondack Northway (I-87): Take Exit 20. Drive north on Route 9 to Route 149, headed to Fort Ann, N.Y. In Fort Ann, take Route 4 North to Route 22A in Vermont. Follow Route 22A through Vergennes, then follow Route 7 North into Burlington. Turn right onto Main Street (Route 2 East). Go uphill one light to South Prospect Street, and turn right. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

From Burlington International Airport: From airport grounds, turn left onto Airport Drive. At next stoplight, turn right onto Williston Road/Route 2 West. Drive 4-5 miles west to UVM campus, where Williston Road becomes Main Street. Continue on Main Street past intersections for University Heights and University Terrace. Turn left on South Prospect Street. (See Directions to Dormitory Parking, below.)

Directions to dormitory parking (Wing/Davis/Wilks)

Once you are on South Prospect Street, you will drive approximately ¾ mile. You will see a UVM sign indicating the Music Building and other destinations on the Redstone Campus, but pass this entrance for now. Continue another one-tenth mile, and turn left at a UVM sign which reads 'Residence Halls' (there will be a gate ahead which will open as you pull up to it). After turning into this drive, you will see the Wing/Davis/Wilks dorm complex straight ahead. Follow the drive as it curves around to the right, and park in the Davis lot. Once you have been registered and receive your room key, you may park in the circular drive next to Davis Hall (while unloading only, please…we have many people arriving). If you have a GPS, this building address may help: 486 South Prospect Street (please note: this should never be used as a mailing address).

If you pass the Redstone Apartments, you have gone too far on South Prospect Street.
