Travel to GMCMF

How should I plan my travel to the festival?

Green Mountain will take place on the campus of Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. Regular & Fellowship program participants should make plans to arrive on Sunday, June 29, 2025, which is arrival day. It is ideal to arrive between noon and 5 pm so you can join other students for dinner, and attend a welcome meeting at 7 pm and a meeting on your dorm hall at 9 pm.

If you arrive on Saturday, June 28, you will need to find local transportation and hotel housing for that night. Festival staff can pick you up from your hotel on Sunday.

Beginning on Sunday, June 29, GMCMF staff will pick up all students arriving at the Burlington airport (BTV), Amtrak station (Essex Junction, VT), or Burlington bus stations, even if very late.

How do I arrange to be picked up on my arrival by plane, bus, or train?

Every student must submit an online Travel Plans form (this form is posted in late spring 2025). Please do this as soon as you know your plans! You can submit the form again if you have significant changes. In the event of a delay, if we already have the flight/train number, there is no need to resubmit the form, as we'll track the arrival time for that flight or train. If you (the student) receive an automated email showing your form has been submitted, you can be sure that we have your plans and you will be scheduled for pickup if arriving by plane, bus, or train.

What if I will be keeping a car at the festival?

Please submit an online Travel Plans form, letting us know of your estimated arrival time. Please use '62 Cashman Rd, Colchester, VT' in your GPS if driving to GMCMF. Additional driving and parking directions are below. While parking on the campus of St. Michael's College will be free, you will need to register your car using this form by Monday, June 30 at noon. All students who have cars on campus during GMCMF should plan to park their car in the parking lot at the Dion Student Center.

What if I am being brought to the festival by car?

Please submit an online Travel Plans form, letting us know of your estimated arrival time. Driving and parking directions are below. When you arrive on campus via car, parking may be found next Canterbury and Pontigny Halls off Campus Road or in the Dion Student Center parking lot. Student check-in will take place at Canterbury and Pontigny Halls (62 Cashman Road, Colchester, VT). If you are arriving by car, you may park directly outside Canterbury and Pontigny Halls to unload your belongings and then we will ask that you move your car to the Dion Student Center Parking Lot.

Who should I call if I have significant travel delays or other problems?

We will provide contact information to students and parents in advance of travel. Email and the Travel Plans form are not useful on arrival day.

Where and when will I register once I arrive on campus?

Registration is conducted on Sunday, June 29, 2025 from noon until 6 p.m. on campus at Canterbury and Pontigny Halls (62 Cashman Road, Colchester, VT). A member of the resident staff will individually register students arriving later. The first meal available to students is dinner from 5:00-6:00 PM (parents are not able to be accommodated in the dining hall, but there are many local restaurants in the area). A welcome meeting will be held at 7:00 PM in the McCarthy Arts Center Recital Hall for all students and faculty who have arrived. Parents are welcome to attend this meeting. Following the welcome meeting, resident assistants (RAs) will hold a meeting with all students in the dorms. Student arrivals taking place after 7:00 PM can be accommodated.

Departure Information

Sunday, July 27, 2025 is the day of departure for students attending the Regular & Fellowship Programs (unless you are staying for Suzuki Teacher Training or attending the Junior Program). Students will be shuttled to the airport in a coach bus at one of a few departure times depending on when their flight departs. The first shuttle to the airport is at 4:00 AM. Transportation is also provided to area bus and train stations. Festival participants should plan to leave the SMC campus by noon on Sunday, July 27; those with afternoon or evening flights will be given transportation to the airport in the early afternoon.

Students wishing to leave the festival prior to Sunday, July 27 will need to inform their teacher, chamber group and coach, Artistic Director and Resident Director. Transportation to airport, bus, and train will not be provided on Saturday, July 26.

Prior to leaving, students notify a Resident Assistant that they are ready for a quick room inspection. Any room damage will be charged to the students after SMC maintenance assesses the damage. Failure to turn in a room key and key card will result in an extra charge.

***If students experience departure delays on Sunday, July 27, housing can be provided in the dorms for an additional fee. Students who choose to stay in the dorm an extra night due to unforeseen travel delays agree to pay this fee. Students may also find their own hotel housing for the evening, to which GMCMF will provide transportation.***

Housing & Facilities Information at Saint Michael's College

Students will be housed in air conditioned suite-style dorms on campus in Canterbury and Pontigny Halls. Each student will have their own private, lockable sleeping room within the suite and will share a common area with their suite-mates. There are two single-use bathrooms per eight person suite. A housing survey will be sent to attending students later in spring 2025. The festival utilizes many other spaces on campus, such as the Dion Student Center, Jeanmarie and St. Edmund's Halls and the McCarthy Arts Center. Parking is free across campus in the summer and may be found next to dorms and the Dion Student Center in the parking lot off of Campus Road. Festival activities take place mainly in: Jeanmarie Hall, St. Edmund's Hall, McCarthy Arts Center, Alliot Hall (dining facilities) and Elley Long Music Center (faculty concerts), just off the main campus of St. Michael's (shuttles will be provided for students to and from faculty concerts).
